These terms set the rules for the macup Affiliate Program. They are written to be read end-to-end before you apply. Questions about interpretation go to legal@macup.app; questions about the program itself — links, payouts, creative assets — go to affiliates@macup.app.
Overview
These terms govern participation in the macup Affiliate Program. By applying, and by being accepted into it, you agree to them in full. Program details — commission rate, attribution window, minimum payout threshold — are subject to change with notice, as described in the Changes section. Current values are stated in each relevant section of this document and in the affiliate portal.
These terms supplement, and are incorporated into, the macup Terms of Service (/legal/terms). If anything here conflicts with the Terms of Service on a point specific to the affiliate relationship, these terms win.
Eligibility
You must be 18 years of age or older and legally able to enter into a binding contract in your jurisdiction. Approval into the program is at macup’s sole discretion. We reserve the right to decline any applicant — including one who meets the eligibility criteria — where we determine that the applicant’s audience, content, or conduct is inconsistent with these terms or with the reputation of the macup brand.
If your application is declined, we will tell you so; we may or may not give a reason, depending on the circumstances.
Application and approval
Apply via the affiliate portal, linked from /affiliates. You will be asked for basic information about yourself, your primary promotion channels, and how you intend to promote macup.
Approval decisions are typically returned within 5 business days. During high-volume periods (for example, around a launch) it may take longer; if it does, we will say so on the application page.
The program
When you are approved, you receive a unique affiliate link. When a person who has not previously been a macup customer clicks your link, lands on macup.app, and later signs up and pays for a macup plan within the attribution window described below, you earn a commission. The commission recurs for as long as that customer maintains a paid subscription, subject to the rules in the next section.
Referrals are one-to-one between affiliate and referred customer. An existing macup customer does not generate new commissions if they click your link, and a customer cannot be re-attributed to a different affiliate once attributed.
Commission
The commission rate at program launch is 20% of net revenue, recurring for the lifetime of the referred customer’s paid subscription. Net revenue means the revenue macup actually receives from the customer after:
- Taxes collected and remitted to tax authorities.
- Refunds issued, in full or in part.
- Chargebacks and payment-processor reversals.
- Payment-processor fees applied directly to the transaction.
Commission is calculated per payment cycle and recorded in your affiliate portal.
Macup reserves the right to adjust the commission rate with 60 days’ prior notice. Referrals that signed up before the change remain at the rate active when they signed up, for as long as their subscription is continuous. If a customer cancels and later re-subscribes, the rate in effect at re-subscription applies.
Attribution and tracking
Attribution is first-touch within a 60-day cookie window. When a prospective customer clicks an affiliate link, a cookie is set on their browser that identifies you as the referring affiliate. If that customer signs up and pays within 60 days of the click, the commission is attributed to you.
If a prospective customer clicks more than one affiliate link within the 60-day window, the most recent click wins. The earlier affiliate’s cookie is overwritten. This matches how most mainstream affiliate networks behave and is designed to reward whoever closed the sale.
Attribution requires a functioning cookie in the customer’s browser. Customers who clear cookies, use private-browsing modes, or use strict tracking-prevention may not be attributable through the standard flow. We do not backfill attribution manually outside the portal’s reconciliation tools.
Payout
Payouts are issued through the affiliate-management portal. Approved affiliates can view their running balance, pending commissions, and payout history there.
- Minimum payout balance: $25 USD. Balances below the threshold roll forward to the next cycle.
- Payout cadence: monthly, on the 15th of the month, for commissions earned in the prior calendar month.
- Clawback window: 30 days. A commission earned on a given payment becomes payable only after that 30-day window has passed without a refund or chargeback against the underlying transaction. If a refund or chargeback occurs within the window, the commission is reversed before payout.
You are responsible for providing accurate payout information in the portal and for keeping it current. We are not liable for missed payouts caused by out-of-date banking, tax, or payout details on your account.
FTC and advertising disclosures
You must comply with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides, and with the equivalent advertising-disclosure rules in any jurisdiction where you promote macup.
At a minimum, this means:
- Clear and prominent disclosure that you earn a commission when someone signs up for macup through your link. “Clear and prominent” means the disclosure is visible without a reader having to click through, expand, or scroll into a footer they were not already reading.
- Disclosure in every channel where you promote macup — YouTube video descriptions and on-screen, blog posts, podcast episode notes and spoken reads, social posts, email newsletters, community posts.
- Truthful statements. Do not claim features, results, savings, or experiences you have not had or cannot substantiate.
Non-disclosure is a termination event. We treat missing or buried disclosures as a material breach, not a minor oversight.
Permitted promotion
The following kinds of content are welcome, assuming they are truthful, disclosed, and otherwise compliant with these terms:
- Honest written or video reviews, positive or negative, of macup.
- Tutorials, walkthroughs, setup guides, and how-to content.
- Comparison content where macup is one option among several.
- Newsletter mentions, roundups, and link sections.
- Podcast reads — host-read or otherwise — that are clearly marked as sponsored or affiliate.
- Community posts in forums, subreddits, or Slack/Discord communities that allow commercial links, following that community’s rules.
Prohibited conduct
The following are prohibited. This list is non-exhaustive; behaviour that isn’t listed but that a reasonable person would consider dishonest, deceptive, or harmful to the macup brand is also prohibited.
- Bidding on macup brand keywords — “macup”, misspellings of “macup”, and close variants — in paid search on any search engine.
- Cookie-stuffing, iframe tricks, auto-redirects, pop-unders, forced-click mechanisms, or any technique that sets the affiliate cookie without a visitor’s deliberate click on your affiliate link.
- Incentivised signups — offering gift cards, cash-back, points, rebates, or any other direct compensation for signing up through your link — unless pre-approved by macup in writing.
- Fake reviews, astroturfing, purchased reviews, paid commenters, or any form of manufactured endorsement.
- Spam. This includes cold-email campaigns, unsolicited direct messages at scale, and posts in forums or communities where commercial links are against the rules.
- Typosquatting or any domain, subdomain, or social-media handle that implies official affiliation with macup. “macupreview.com” is fine; “macup-official.com” is not.
- Content that disparages macup, members of the macup team, or macup customers. Honest negative review is not disparagement; personal attacks and defamatory claims are.
- Using macup brand assets in ways that imply endorsement by us, a partnership beyond the affiliate relationship, or an employment relationship.
- Marketing or targeting anyone under the age of majority in their jurisdiction.
- Representing yourself as an employee, founder, co-founder, officer, or authorised agent of macup.
Violation of this section is a material breach and is grounds for immediate termination under the Termination section.
Brand assets and trademarks
You may use the macup word mark and the approved logos contained in the affiliate-program brand kit, which is linked from the affiliate portal. Use the kit rather than grabbing assets from the site.
You may not:
- Modify the macup word mark or logos — no colour changes beyond the approved palette, no distortion, no cropping of the logomark, no composite logos that combine our mark with yours or with another party’s.
- Register, acquire, or use any domain name, subdomain, social-media handle, app name, or product name that includes “macup” or a confusingly similar variant, without our prior written permission.
- Use the macup marks in advertising that targets other companies’ trademarked terms in a way that implies confusion or association.
If in doubt, ask at affiliates@macup.app before you publish.
Independent contractor
You participate as an independent contractor. Nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, joint-venture, or franchise relationship between you and macup. Each party bears its own costs, expenses, and taxes. You are responsible for reporting and paying any taxes due on commissions you earn; we will issue the tax documents required by applicable law.
No guarantees
We make no representation, promise, or guarantee about the commission volume you will earn. Some months will exceed expectations; some will fall well short. We do not offer minimum-earnings guarantees, signing bonuses (outside of programs explicitly advertised as such), or commitments about the number of referrals any particular piece of content will produce.
Termination
Either party may terminate this agreement, and your participation in the program, at any time with 30 days’ written notice. We may terminate immediately, without notice, for material breach — including but not limited to violations of the FTC and advertising disclosures section, the Prohibited conduct section, or fraud.
On termination:
- Pending commissions are paid in accordance with the Payout section, subject to the clawback window and the minimum-balance threshold.
- Your affiliate link is deactivated.
- No new referrals accrue. Clicks on your deactivated link after termination are not attributed to you.
- Previously attributed, currently paying customers remain attributed for historical reporting; no further commissions accrue on those accounts after the termination date.
Changes
We may change these terms. For material changes — specifically, changes to the commission rate, the attribution window, or the minimum payout threshold — we will give 60 days’ prior notice through the affiliate portal and to the email address on your affiliate account. For other changes we will give 30 days’ prior notice through the same channels.
Your continued participation after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance. If you do not accept a change, you may terminate under the Termination section; commissions earned before termination are paid as normal.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. This choice of law is consistent with, and coordinated with, the macup Terms of Service (/legal/terms).
